“ I ordered the fried chicken. I know, I know: it's a BBQ place. But D Magazine mentioned it was one of the best places for fried chicken, so I gave it a chance. The outer crust/skin was different in appearance from the fried chicken I eat, but it was delicious, and the chicken was still juicy. Plus, they have excellent southern sides, as well. Next time you go there, please give their fried chicken a try; it will not disappoint. ”

“ Right when you walk in there is a line that leads you to order your food. The staff is friendly and fast at getting the line down. I got the chopped brisket sandwich and thought it was great, especially with the bbq sauce. My only complaint is that the parking lot is small, so when we arrived there were no free spots. ”

“ Slow Bone is the exact type of place you're looking for in a BBQ joint. A little bit off the beaten path, counter service pulling meat out when you order to cut to weight. On my visit, I tried several items. Starting off was the cornbread. The one and only letdown of the trip - it was dry as a bone (and not in the good BBQ bones way). Next up was the Brisket. They have an insane assortment of sauces which made this a bit of an adventure with some being a bit TOO unique, but the meat itself was nicely done. Then came my largest standout and surprise - the turkey sandwich. OMG! I don't even know why I ordered this, but I did and I do not regret it in the slightest. The BEST TURKEY SANDWICH EVER! Lastly, the sweet potato praline was solid. Right on par with what you'd expect. My only slight complaint might be a few items are a tad overpriced, but they know what they're doing with their meats and you'll get your BBQ fix here! ”

“ I've driven past Slow Bone it seems like forever. I finally stopped today and am pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is quaint and well appointed with Texas decor!! The menu has plenty of options if you're not feeling like beef. I had the beef rib, it was HUGE!! So big I saved half for wifey. It was fall off the bone and literally melted in my mouth. One of the best bites ever! I also ordered the greens and thought they were flavorful, not my favorite. The side of cornbread was good as well. All in all a great BBQ joint and to be on the Texas Top 50 is nice!! ”

“ I drive by this place all the time because it looks like an abandoned warehouse if you ignore the signage. Today, I decided to go in about 30 mins before close for lunch. The first lady at the counter seemed like she was ready to go home but was still very helpful. I ordered a pork rib, a piece of fried chicken, collard greens, mac & cheese and cornbread. My friend got a brisket sandwich with mac & cheese, brisket beans, and hush puppies. Our total was around $60. Everything was delicious. Greens were a tad bit on the vinegary side and the brisket beans tasted more like chili but altogether we enjoyed our meal. Would definitely return! ”

“ Slow Bone Barbecue building has the color of their bbq sauce emblazoned with its name. Belly up to order counter; a line already formed at 11:30am. Inside is decorated like the standard Texas roadhouse with varied seating modes while there is outdoor seating out back. I did takeout since I would be dining outdoors while waiting for the Total Solar Eclipse to occur at 1:40pm. 1) Fried Okra: Covered with what looks like corn meal & Cajun Crawfish Boil mix made of red chiles, aromatic spices. Crispy coating, inside is meaty & bit slimey. Tastes salty, sweet. Overall taste is good, but way too salty for my taste. Hypertensives beware.  2)  Brussel Flower au Gratin: Half split brussel sprouts & florets of cauliflowers, a bit al dente. Thickened cream sauce is subtle with a touch of nutmeg which may be good as a blander contrast to the ultra salty fried okra. This gratin has a delicate smokiness, too.  3)  Sweet Potato Praline: Dulcet mashed sweet potato infused with caramelized sugar & bits of woody, nutty pecans that still retain a touch of crunch. It would make a good filling for a sweet potato pie. However, still a tad too much salt considering it's almost like dessert. 4)  Pork Rib: 3 ribs/.5lb. Comes almost right off the bone. Soft yet nice porky taste & pleasantly fibrous meat. Perfect luscious fattiness. Brined yet not too salty. Slight bit of a rosy "ring" near the bone, subtle smoke. $16 for 3 ribs. Emphasis is to showcase the meat rub & meat quality. If I want more bbq sweet sournessness, I would use the house Q sauce which is watery, acidic, fruity, red chile, garlicky with a good dose of woody cumin & vinegar tang.  Just be careful opening their plastic takeout container so the loose sauce doesn't spill onto your lap. Raw high quality crunchy, sweet sliced onions. Sliced Best Maid dill pickles, pickled Jalapeños, etc. were available free online. 5) Brisket: 1/2lb minimum order. Two thick slices of fatty outer "bark" with what may be mostly black pepper rub. Extra meaty, leaner depending on the cut while other parts are more melt in your mouth fattiness. Again, not too salty, mild smoke. Much of the good qualities of the ribs are also in the brisket. $19 I ordered online for $3 service charge that the website does not inform you till the last step in the ordering process. Also annoying is once you order online, you keep getting their email advertisements on occasion. Everything is packed up securely. There is a separate door to get your timed online order which in my case was about 30 minutes late. Bit pricey at over $64 total including tax & tip so it didn't have the bang for your bucks. Overall, good BBQ but didn't wow me like at Jo-Max in Metter, Georgia of 30 years ago.  4- stars ”
